Metrolina Baptist Association responding to needs with caring and sharing…
Caring for neighbors as we share the good news of Jesus Christ.
In the past few years, Metrolina Baptist Association has promoted the Feeding the Multitude project in our city and region, following the model of First Baptist Church Charlotte’s feeding project at Thanksgiving. Those efforts have been successful; however, we will be encouraging and equipping our churches to approach the needs of those around us in three specific ways this fall. Between now and Christmas, we will be asking our family of churches to share Jesus, the Bread of Life, and meet the needs of our neighbors in one of these ways:
1. Feeding the Multitude projects
In the past, First Baptist Charlotte and First Baptist Matthews have done a Thanksgiving mission project. If any of our churches would like learn more about this project, or would like to do a similar event, MBA will help you in every way possible. Please let us know if you plan to do this project this year.
2. Church Food Pantry Support
There is a significant on-going need to supply food pantries in our area so that they can meet the needs of those around us with the love of Jesus. A number of our churches, Eastern Hills, Pritchard Memorial, Mulberry Baptist and Wilson Grove, are now distribution sites for Loaves & Fishes food pantries. Referrals must be given in order to receive food and supplies from these pantries. Please contact the individual churches for distribution days and times.
Other churches, like Independence Hill, Hickory Grove, HOPE Community, Mayfield Memorial, Shady Brook, and New Hope, also have food pantries.
Our plan is to identify every food pantry in the association, and ask other churches to partner with churches near them by donating collected food goods. MBA will also receive donated foods and distribute them to pantries around the association. Pray for and connect with a pantry near you, trusting God to provide resources needed and change lives through the ministry that takes place there. We ask our churches to set up collection boxes where members can donate food goods each week between now and Christmas.
A number of our churches collect food regularly for Loaves and Fishes. We encourage our churches to continue this worthy effort. Visit Loaves and Fishes for more information.
3. Partner with Harvest Discount Foods
Harvest Discount Foods is a non-profit grocery outlet located at 4125 Yancey Road in south Charlotte. This ministry, open Thursday-Saturday, partners with churches to provide for neighbors in need. Churches can purchase $25 vouchers for $20, and then these can be used at the store to get groceries or other household supplies. No tobacco or alcohol is sold here. For more information, visit the Harvest Discount Foods Facebook Page or call 704.525.7283.
If your church is working to prayerfully share resources between now and Christmas, please let us know so that we can include your efforts in Bread of Life updates to our family of churches. Email bob@metrolina.org or call 704.375.1197 to share your news.
We will be sharing more news on these Bread of Life opportunities in the coming weeks. Pray with us that God will lead many to trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord because we cared and shared in His name.
